About 25 minutes from Le Relais U Machjonu Corse — Tolla, an authentic stay in the Corsican hinterland above the lake of Tolla, the Ranch de Bastelica is one of the oldest stables in southern Corsica specialising in mountain horseback riding. Family-run for over 30 years, the ranch transhumes every summer from the village of Bastelica (900 m altitude) up to the heights of the Ese plateau (1,600 m), at the foot of Monte Renoso (the 4th highest peak in Corsica).

The rides on offer

All rides take place in very small groups (max. 6 people), with a passionate guide. Outings suit anyone from a sporty beginner to a confirmed rider.

Our favourite ride

The full-day ride to the Pozzi is the ranch's great classic and the favourite of our guests at the Relais: 6 hours on horseback between forests, rivers and high-altitude plateaus, picnic included, mythical Corsican mountain landscapes. Not to be missed if you are comfortable outdoors.

  • Long trousers mandatory (jeans or sports trousers).
  • Closed shoes (no flip-flops or running shoes).
  • Helmet provided by the ranch.
  • Book in advance, especially in high season.
